Az NME ötödször szavazott minden idők legjobb albumairól, nyert a Smiths

Minden idők legjobb lemezeit összeállítani minden magazin életében kitüntetett pillanat, aminek minden újabb generáció életében eljön az ideje. A legjelentősebb brit zenei hetilap, az 1952 óta megjelenő New Musical Express először 1974-ben, aztán 1985-ben, majd 1993-ban, végül legutóbb 2003-ban vállalkozott a nagy feladatra, most pedig, újabb tíz év elteltével ismét megszavaztatta jelenlegi és egykori újságíróit a legfontosabb, legjelentősebb albumokról. A Morrissey-önéletrajz megjelenésének hetében nem is annyira meglepő módon a Smiths csúcslemeze, az 1986-os The Queen Is Dead végzett az első helyen.

Az aktuális lista végeredményéhez a szavazók top 50-es albumlistákat állítottak össze, melyeken az első helyezettek 50 pontot kaptak, az ötvenedikek 1-et, továbbá ugyanígy bepontozták a NME év végi albumlistáinak szereplőit is és az összevont eredmény adta ki a minden idők 500 legjobb albuma listát (a korábbi szavazások alkalmával csak 100 lemezt neveztek meg).
